The Jewels of Happiness by peace visionary Sri Chinmoy offers rich inspiration for cultivating happiness in life. The chapters are read by distinguished individuals from many fields, each of whom has made a unique contribution to the world. The 17 readers include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Grammy Award winner Roberta Flack, Emmy and Tony Award winner Judith Light and Olympic great Carl Lewis. Topics include Peace, Love, Joy, Power, Sincerity, Self-Transcendence and Happiness. In simple and accessible language, with practical exercises, each section of the audio book gives life to one of these essential qualities. Sri Chinmoy led the Peace Meditations at the United Nations twice weekly for 37 years at the invitation of UN Secretary-General U Thant. The meditations, which continue to this day, seek to provide an oasis of inner peace for UN delegates and staff. Sri Chinmoy also founded the world’s largest global relay run, the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run. Through his prolific creativity in literature, music, sport, art and humanitarian service, this dedicated friend of humanity encouraged people of all nations to bring forward the best in themselves for their own fulfilment and for the progress of the world. The Jewels of Happiness was launched at United Nations Headquarters on the eve of the first UN-declared International Day of Happiness. The emerging field of “happiness economics” is now discovering what wise men and women have always known: that the happiness of a society depends upon far more than material wealth. Reflecting the ideal of unity in diversity, the readers convey Sri Chinmoy’s illumining insights into genuine happiness with conviction, variety and charm. In 1900, aged 22, Charles Stewart Rolls was the best known motorist in Britain, better known than Jeremy Clarkson today, having won the "Thousand Mile Trial" of that year, the event that launched motoring as a practical popular concept. Rolls followed his success in the Trial by racing in highly dangerous inter-city races in Europe. He drove the fastest time ever achieved in Britain, although this was never ratified. At the same time, Rolls ran a large car-sales and service showroom in London, employing 70 staff with space for 200 cars. In the span of six months, he persuaded the secretary of the Automobile Society of Great Britain and Ireland to join him, and then, shortly after, discovered Henry Royce with whom his name is now forever linked. This triumvirate of talented engineers and businessmen took Rolls-Royce Ltd. to the pinnacle of motor and aero engineering that the company has occupied ever since. Rolls helped create the new sport of hot-air ballooning and raced his balloon for his country. He then joined a select band of intrepid pioneers who risked all to prove the theory of powered flight. He was first to fly the English Channel both ways but weeks later perished at the Bournemouth Air Show. Engineer, salesman, aristocrat, pioneer, and businessman, Charles Rolls offers us a timely reminder of British invention, courage, and ingenuity more than 100 years ago. 1. Language: English. 'Sarah doesn't just sit at the table - she stands on it. She's full of inspiring advice about how to bounce back from failures, speak your truth, embrace your quirks, and have a lot more fun along the way.' (Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO and founder of Leanin.org) As a child Sarah Robb O'Hagan felt destined to become a champion, but her early efforts at sport, music and theatre failed to reveal a natural superstar. Unwilling to settle for average, she learned through a series of dramatic successes and epic failures to follow her own path to success. Sarah climbed the corporate ladder at Virgin Atlantic, Nike, Gatorade and Equinox - also becoming a wife, a mother and an endurance athlete - and though in her 20s she was fired twice, in her 30s she led the turnaround of a $5 billion sports drink business. Her approach has stemmed from personal experience and inspiration from the band of highly accomplished 'Extremers' that she has met along the way: entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, TV personalities, an Olympic champion downhill skier, a former secretary of state, and even a world-famous tattoo artist. These Extremers helped her recognise that success doesn't come from conforming, hiding weaknesses or reaching some preplanned destination. The bolder choice is to embrace Extreme You: to bring all that is distinctive and relevant about yourself to everything you do and to bring out the Extreme in the people and the culture around you. Inspiring, practical and funny, Extreme You is Sarah's training programme for developing the drive, originality and fierce attitude to become the best version of you. 1. Language: English.
